Laser Transmitter Sensor Module – 650nm 5V (KY-008)
Project a highly concentrated, sharp red light beam across massive distances with the KY-008 Laser Transmitter Sensor Module. Precision-engineered for optical signaling and smart automation, this compact transmitter board combines a high-efficiency copper laser head casing with an integrated protective current-limiting resistor to ensure safe, stable continuous beam emissions.
Emitting a visible red light at a precise 650-nanometer wavelength, this module is engineered to cast a narrow, tight dot beam with virtually zero light scatter. It serves as the definitive choice for long-range tripwire security alarms, optical data communication networks, 3D laser scanners, and autonomous robotic navigation arrays.
Key Features
Concentrated 650nm Beam: Projects a vibrant, bright red laser dot that stays tightly focused even when cast over long target distances.
Integrated Hardware Protection: Built with an onboard surface-mount resistor that safely drops the current flowing into the laser diode, preventing thermal breakdown and extending operational life.
Direct Microcontroller Drive: Draws negligible current, allowing you to connect the logic pin directly to digital output lines on an Arduino, ESP32, STM32, or Raspberry Pi without needing a high-power driver transistor.
Rugged Copper Casing: The main laser head is tightly encased in a heavy-duty copper barrel, which provides excellent heat dissipation and physical protection against minor impacts.
Compact, Form-Factor Breadboard Fit: Features an ultra-small circuit footprint with integrated mounting paths, making it incredibly simple to screw onto structural brackets or slide into tight project enclosures.

Hardware Wiring & Pin Mapping
The module breaks out a highly organized 3-pin interface to make hardware hookups simple and fast:
- (GND Pin): Connects to the system ground reference rail of your microcontroller.
S (Signal / Trigger Pin): Connects directly to any digital output pin on your control board. Pulling this pin HIGH (5V) instantly powers up the laser; dropping it LOW (0V) shuts the beam off.
Middle Pin (Unlabeled / VCC): Stays completely disconnected in standard digital configuration (power is drawn directly through the Signal track).
Common Applications
Laser Tripwire Security Barriers: Pair with a photoresistor or light-dependent resistor module on the opposite wall to build an invisible home security boundary that triggers a loud alarm the moment the beam is broken.
Industrial Parts Counting System: Position across a production conveyor belt to count physical objects or boxes as they pass through and block the light track.
Visible Alignment & Positioning: Mount on custom CNC routers, 3D printers, or drilling presses to provide a clear, real-time center point reference mark.
Optical Morse Code Communications: Program your microcontroller to flash the laser pin at specific frequency patterns to transmit digital text data through open air to a distant light receiver.
⚠️ Laser Safety Warning: This module utilizes an active laser diode. NEVER look directly into the laser beam emitter or point it toward anyone's eyes. Direct laser exposure can cause permanent retinal damage. Keep this module out of reach of small children and handle with caution during active testing.
